Having sought and gained planning permission for a small downstairs Toilet and Porch extension we embarked on the task of looking for a builder. To be honest it was something that we were dreading as it can be a little bit of a shot in the dark when engaging a builder. Having searched through reviews of builders that we were aware of, we weren’t filled with confidence, as some didn’t bother calling back, others thought the job was too small and others thought it was too complicated and technical. As luck would have it I was driving down the A38 when a very smart and clean builders van came past me (I drive like Miss Daisy) and I was so struck by the cleanliness of the vehicle that I took note of the number and website of “Si Building Contractors Plymouth” and called Simon and from that point on I knew that our building project was in excellent and completely professional hands. I was concerned that perhaps the job was too small for Simon to take on as having looked at his website and the gallery of pictures, I could see that he was normally working on large Barn conversions or large extensions but he immediately put my worries to rest. Work started in February 2020 and was instantly dogged by the COVID Lockdown. We expected all work to stop but Simon kept the project on track, innovatively sourcing hard to obtain materials and meticulously planning the order of jobs to keep the build progressing forward, regardless of the restrictions placed on him by the Lockdown, whilst completely adhering to Social Distancing protocol at all times. Throughout the whole project Simon could not have been more helpful and more understanding. I work away from home a lot but Simon not only kept my Wife fully informed but he also did the same for me and was incredibly patient with the questions I would have regarding the plan. He would also be very receptive to the slight additions we made to the interior work as the Porch and Toilet took shape, additions which hadn’t occurred to us until we could actually see the space that Simon was creating for us. What impressed us the most was cleanliness of the site every day after the builders had gone home, the quality of the workmanship and the lengths that Simon would go to ensure that the new build blended into the existing property rather than looking like an add on, and now that it is complete, the new extension looks like it has always been there. Simon achieved this by going out of his way to source reclaimed tiles rather than just using what was available at the Builders Merchants, obtaining decorative bricks from around the country and matching the style of the facias and the leaded windows exactly. Just by going that extra mile Simon made an incredible difference; that is indicative of Simon’s attitude towards his work and towards us as the customer. We are over the moon with the result! If you are looking for a builder that will turn your hard saved money, your ideas, plans and dreams into a reality then Simon is your Man, I wouldn’t waste too much time looking elsewhere. If in the future we decide to have more work done on our property we wouldn’t go anywhere else now either, in fact it will be a real pleasure to engage Simon again, knowing that we are in perfectly safe and trusted hands and that the job we need doing will be done to an exceptionally high standard, on time and exactly on budget.
